Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph Return as West Indies Announce Test Squad for Sri Lanka Series

Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph return; West Indies boost squad benedictions ahead of two-match Test series against Sri Lanka The duo will return in the red-ball setup after recovering from their injuries that had ruled them out of the two-Test tours to India and New Zealand earlier last year.

The pair were last seen in Test cricket during Australia’s tour of the Caribbean back in 2025. Their return lends great strength to the West Indies pace strike-force, that has within it seasoned seamer Kemar Roach and young gun Jayden Seales. With the hosts looking to bounce back against Sri Lanka at home, team management will hope the extra firepower can boost their chances.

Wicketkeeper-batter Joshua Da Silva has also been recalled by the selectors on the back of an excellent domestic season. The 38-year-old has been the standout performer in this year’s West Indies Championship as he topped the tournament run-charts with a total of 413 runs from seven innings. His excellent performances saw him get picked up again for the national side as well as appointed the keeper in place of Dinesh Karthik for the Sri Lanka series.

He comes in at the expense of Tevin Imlach who misses out on a Test XI spot. Imlach used the gloves last December against New Zealand with 81 runs in six innings not setting the world alight. But he is still in the selectors’ frame and has been named captain of the West Indies Select XI for a four-day warm-up fixture against Sri Lanka at Coolidge, which starts on June 18.

A more notable return brings in left-handed batter Amir Jangoo, who returns to the Test squad for India since his one-off against Pakistan in Multan in January 2025. In domestic cricket, Jangoo was one of the top performers in the West Indies Championship during which he scored 411 runs across seven innings. He ended as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer, behind only Da Silva.

Having key players return from injury and rewarded a number of domestic performers for their consistency, West Indies will be eyeing to notch up a good performance when they follow it up with a Test series against Sri Lanka.
