Dhaka Bangladesh ODI captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz backed all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain who was brought back to the side. The national’s going into a series against Australia and such a recall of an experienced player is timely according to Miraz.
Mosaddek has reclaimed his spot back in the Bangladesh ODI team after four years. For offering the 30-year-old a series of promising show in domestic cricket, the Bangladesh Cricket Board made him into the squad for the opening two matches and selected Patto from Australia.
The all-rounder has been in sensational form, scoring 310 runs from just six innings at an average of 77.50 and a strike rate of 129.17. His list of contributions includes a century and two half-centuries emphasizing how consistent he was with the bat. This was well backed by his bowling too, where he had an allround tally of 12 wickets from seven innings, which also strengthens his case for a national return.
Miraz also made a case for inclusion after the selection because of Mosaddek’s commitment and performances over an extended period. Bangladesh captain, Bigger has said the seasoned all-rounder had put in a lot of hard yards and continued to perform domestically consistently for this being perfect time for him to be back in the international fold.
Miraz was also confident that Mosaddek would have a significant role to play if he filled the role designed by those in charge of his duties. Bangladesh needs more players performing in different situations, particularly all-rounders who add balance with bat and ball, he said.
Miraz brushed aside concerns that their same skill sets could create competition in the squad, addressing suggestions of selection issues should both be available. As he explained, the pair had taken the same path for years before lining up together in Bangladesh’s shared 2019 ODI World Cup experience.
And instead of seeing one another as rivals, Miraz insists their partnership gives the team both added flexibility and depth. He emphasised everyone has a certain role and argued both all-rounders can work in tandem for the sake of the Bangladesh cricket.
Mosaddek’s return brings some much-needed experience, balance and competition among the ranks as Bangladesh gear up for an uphill task.
