Mitchell Starc Set for IPL 2026 Return After Injury Boost to DC

Mitchell Starc, the Australian fast bowler has been given a go-ahead to fly to India after recovering from shoulder and elbow injuries to play in IPL 2026. While he has been off competitive cricket since late January, the left-arm pacer is likely to join Delhi Capitals shortly and may even be available to play in their next match against Rajasthan Royals on May 1 in Jaipur.

Starc gave a tremendous effort in the recent Ashes series, where he took 31 wickets and was one of Australia’s key players. Post the Test series, he played a few matches with the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League before shoulder and elbow pain made his left arm fall. However, he had to take some time out for recovery but later returning soreness caused a delay in his return and then the IPL season probably.

The 36-year-old has bowled pain-free in Sydney for a week, and his fitness is looking much more positive. He is expected to leave for India soon however but will have a short period of acclimatisation and will likely gradually build up his bowling before a return in the tournament. Barring any more injury issues, Starc will be crucial for the remainder of the season for Delhi Capitals.

Australian captain Pat Cummins who is also on his way back could line up for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the same game. Starc and Cummins, together with other senior pacers back in fold is a handy boost for Australia as they contemplate a grueling play in the international calendar for over next 18 months.
